Sapta Tala

Sapta Tala

Apart from 108 varieties of old tālas mentioned in NS, there are seven main Tālas (Sapta Tāla) used in Carnatic music. These seven Tālas are all set based on the seven mātra Tālas in Arangettrakadei in the epic Cilappatikāram With the five jatis (tishra, catuśhra, Khaṇḍa, Mishra, Shankeerna) the Saptha Tāla is multiple into thirty-five Tālas. (7×5= 35)
