Karana

Karana

Karana, as understood from the texts and as depicted in the temple carvings, refers to the frozen image resulting from co-ordinated dance movements involving several angas like the feet, the hands, and the torso to produce a total posture. Karanas are essentially Nritta features and are therefore referred to as nrittakaranas also. Karanas are considered the finale or climax of the movements of the whole body. All the major and minor parts of the body follow the hand and foot movements. Karana is the fusion of sthiti and gati (static and dynamic). Sthiti gives the static pose and gati gives the dynamic movement, the two combining to present a pose. Karana also employs various rechakas- (pada, kati, hasta & kantha), Charis, Bhramaris, Utplavanas, Sthanakas, Gatis, and Nrittahastas.

Rechaka is an action in which the limbs o separately in a circular motion. There are four waist, hands, and neck.
